Papyrus Museum

The museum is filled with photograps and exhibits showing the works on re-discovering the ways papyrus was used. It had good exhibits and a video in English, Germand and Italian to explain much about the history of papyrus, originally brought to Sicily from Egypt and to be found growing in Fonte Aretusa in Ortigia.

Buy a digital guide, some water and walk into the history. Forget tourism for a second, and see how greek and roman history unfolds in Siracusa. Imagine sitting and watching an ancient play in the exact seats that were used a thousand years ago and you have life-long memories. The ruins are well preserved and there is an excellent self-guided recording available. The ticket is inexpensive and is good for three days. A combo ticket includes admission to the Museo archeologico Paolo Orsi.

From 1914 the Greek Theatre of Siracusa becomes the stage of the great classical shows of the ancient drama. The first show was performed the 16th april of 1914: Agamennone of Eschilo. During the period from  may to  july Siracusa  is the center of a timeless event.
